Xlure-RTU, Multispecies Trap for stored product flying insects
The Xlure-RTU is the ready to use monitoring tarp for stored products flying insects where a multiple of pheromones and attractants are incorporated with trap adhesive. It is more effective than other single species traps for flying insects. The trap can be assembled in less than 30 seconds without any special training. It is very also very easy to use. The Xlure-RTU can be used to detect the following flying insects:
- Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella),
- Mill moth (Ephestia kuehniella),
- Tropical warehouse moth (Ephestia cautella),
- Warehouse moth (Ephestia elutella),
- Cigarette beetle (Lasioderma serricorne) and
- Warehouse beetle (Trogoderma sp.).

Xlure-RTU contains PherogelTM technology which gives a controlled release of pheromones. The gel matrix releases the pheromones at an even rate, regardless of temperature spikes, allowing eight to ten weeks of active life.
This trap is long lasting and has a two year shelf life, without refrigeration. It does not require technical knowledge to handle. It's self explanatory settings make it easy for anyone to use this trap. On the other hand, it reduces labour cost as the user will not have to select different traps for various insects.
The Efficacy of Xlure-RTU trap pheromone traps were evaluated in corn storage throughout the year 2008. Xlure-RTU trap baited with Plodia / Ephestia pheromone captured a maximum 150 moths / week during the period of July-September. The trap catches gradually lessened during the months of November- December.
Mass trapping using Xlure-RTU could substantially reduce Plodia / Ephestia infestation prevail in large food processing units, dried fruits and nuts warehouses, silos, flour mills and other stored food facilities.
A sporadic population build-up could make mass trapping alone ineffective in controlling the food moths. Mass trapping strategy can be applied as a part of IPM program alongside other conventional control measures.
